Mindshift #1 💭 Addresses the Root Cause rather than the symptoms

It’s not your genes. You’re not the victim. Your problem didn’t just “happen” to you. A band-aid is just a temporary mask. It won’t permanently RESOLVE your problem. Whatever your goal: weight loss, independence from medication, pain elimination, gut improvement, better skin, etc, it all starts with understanding how you can control the outcome by making your own changes. I would say that 90% of the results you want in your health are tied to the food you eat, which is completely within your own control. How can you start asking the right questions to get to the root of the problem? How can you take ownership of this in your own life?

Mindshift #2 💭 3-D Approach: Mind, Body, Spirit(and Soul)

In our society we tend to put too much focus on the body and the external, but we can’t neglect some parts of who we are and expect to understand ourselves to see long-lasting results. We need a holistic approach that nourishes every part of who we are to make it all work synergistically. In His wisdom God designed us as complex beings and if we would nurture and care for every part of who we are, we would see drastic improvements in our health. What areas of your health have you neglected and would like to put more focus on?

Mindshift #3 💭

Uniquely Individual

Diets are one-size-fits-all, so how can that approach work if we’re all different? Trying a diet that worked for your friend can be devastating when you don’t get the same results. But think about it like buying clothes...not only might you be a different size than your friend but your shape is probably different too, so what looks good on you may not necessarily look good on her too, right? Our approach to health is no different. That’s why it’s so important you get to know yourself from the inside out, learn to appreciate the masterpiece God made in you, and honor your unique bent. Today’s society doesn’t honor your uniqueness but tells you that beauty is only found in looking a certain way or being a certain size. What a lie! If you find it hard to love yourself or to think that others could love the true you, think again my Sweet Friend. If you saw yourself through God’s mirror you would step back in awe. So stop playing small and live up to YOUR TRUE WORTH! There’s a world out there waiting for you to shine your light and glorify God!

Mindshift #4 💭 Not Restrictive

When taking care of yourself it’s important to shift your mindset from that of restriction and deprivation (like when you’re on a diet) to that of CHOOSING to do things that are good for you. You CAN have ANYTHING you want, but you choose to make a wise decision. If someone asks you why you’ve changed your eating habits you can tell them, “I’ve decided to eat foods that make me feel good.” When eating out and looking at your plate of healthy food versus everyone else’s plates, you shouldn’t feel restricted but instead liberated! Liberated from the pull of that food, from its addiction, and its ugly consequences. You ALWAYS have a choice, so unleash the power within your mind by changing the way you see and say things from “I can’t” to “I don’t.” It means you’re in control of your decisions and that feels empowering! Remember: You ALWAYS have a choice! Take ownership of your choices as the Steward God has made you.

Mindshift #5 💭

Focused on Long-Term Benefits (The GAIN!)

This goes hand-in-hand with #5 on restriction. It’s just as easy to think of all you’re gaining as it is what you're "giving up."Look at your changes as a LIFESTYLE UPGRADE! Instead of thinking about what you can’t have, sit down and make a list of all that you CAN HAVE!

  • Feeling better

  • Looking better

  • Weight Loss

  • Increased Energy

  • Sustained Energy

  • Improved menstruation symptoms (no PMS!)

  • Fertility

  • Less chronic sickness (colds, flu, recurring infections)

  • Avoidance of disease (diabetes, cancer, stroke, heart attack, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's...)

  • Better Mobility (ability to move better and faster -keep up with the kids and grand kids, see the world, participate in all activities)

  • Enjoying DELICIOUS food!

  • Improved Digestion (no IBS...gas, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, stomach pain, etc)

  • Mental clarity

And what you're giving up? Oh that's easy too!

  • Chronic pain and inflammation

  • Constant discomfort

  • Debilitating PMS

  • Infertility

  • Clothes that don't fit

  • Embarrassment

  • Exclusion from participating

  • Fear of not being able to do things

  • Withdrawal due to anxiety and depression

  • Chronic sickness

  • Fear of a life-altering diagnosis

  • Low energy

  • Fatigue

  • Mental fog

  • Cost to manage all of the above!

Sometimes it's easy to lose sight of all that you're gaining for the near-sighted view we take of our favorite junk foods we'll have to give up or the discomfort of moving and sweating or the time and energy it takes to care for ourselves. Be wise, my Friend, and remember what the Bible tells us:

Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold. She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her; those who hold her fast are called blessed. -Proverbs 3:13-18

Mindshift #6 💭

Energizing and Stress-Free

For me, diets were draining and stressful. Always tracking, counting, measuring, and weighing‼️ And boy was I stressed when I didn’t see results! Did I do something wrong? Is something wrong with me?Maybe you’ve experienced the same things for yourself.Well DITCHING THE DIET is waaaay different! It’s about improving your mind-body connection so you become really in-tune with your own needs which enables you to honor what your body is telling you. Our society has taught us to turn off the messages our body sends us, especially pain or discomfort. We even learn to ignore fullness, thus overeating regularly. We don’t understand the difference between REAL soul food and the food we eat; we’re in need of something so our bodies are just sending craving signals to which we only know to answer with food. We often think of cravings as something that's trying to "get us in trouble" or "derail us" from our plan, but God, in is infinite wisdom created our bodies to "talk to us," to tell us when something's not right. If we learn to listen to our bodies and honor them, we'll have a lot less stress and can spend our energy on more important and enjoyable things!

Mindshift #7 💭

Self-Loving and Self-Accountable

Ditching The Diet has Self-love written all over it, but careful not to mistake self-love for selfishness or self-centeredness.

As Christians we see self-love through God’s eyes: 1. We know we’re worthy. 2. We know we’re accountable. 3. We know we need energy to serve.

Self-Love is caring for yourself inside out. It’s focused on the internal first, understanding that soul, mind, and spirit are just as important as body.

Self-Love doesn’t participate in the following: • Body hatred

• Body shaming

• Comparison

• Self-hate

• External standards

• Society’s norms

• Mental beatings

Self-Love acknowledges that while you might see opportunity for self-improvement, you still accept yourself as you are now, while making efforts to live up to your potential, as God created you.

Self-Love focuses on the positive instead of what’s lacking and seeks understanding to grow.

Self-Love understands that only you can make the necessary choices to care for yourself; it’s no one else’s responsibility.

Self-Love understands that by caring for yourself you can better care for others.
